Bio

Ghost Twin is a dark synthpop duo from Winnipeg, Canada that combine roaring synths, dirty pulsing bass, dreamy guitar, and a haunting vocal dichotomy where Baroque meets Industrial, with live video percussion that feeds cinema through a cut-up technique imbued with occult aesthetics. Their audio/visual performance creates a full sensory evocative narrative of shadowy haunted rooms occupied by astral phantasms and electronic voices from beyond the aether.

The band is Karen and Jaimz Asmundson, longtime artistic collaborators and husband-and-wife. Jaimz, also an internationally-recognized filmmaker, first worked with Karen on many film projects including a self-aware dark comedy, “Goths! On the Bus!” which played at international festivals including Cannes. Ghost Twin developed as a new dark dance project that could incorporate edited video as both percussion and visuals.

Their first EP Here We Are In The Night took their immersive audio/visual show touring across Canada from packed sweaty clubs to acclaimed festivals. The EP also captured the ears of Maya Postepski – drummer for Austra and electronic music producer known as Princess Century.

Maya produced and contributed live and programmed drums for Plastic Heart – Ghost Twin’s first full-length album. Working alongside co-producer and engineer Michael P Falk (Les Jupes, Head In The Sand) Plastic Heart – Ghost Twin’s first full-length album – was released on labels Head In The Sand (Canada) and Artoffact / Storming the Base (Worldwide) in 2017.

Plastic Heart took Ghost Twin touring in both the US and Canada, and to acclaimed festivals such as SXSW, Canadian Music Week, Pop Montreal, Terminus, NXNE, Jazz Winnipeg, and Verboden. This album has brought them critical acclaim internationally, charting in the Earshot top 20 and the NACC top 200. Ghost Twin has shared the stage with notable acts such as Download (Cevin Key of Skinny Puppy), Wolf Parade, Venetian Snares, Said the Whale, High Functioning Flesh, iVardensphere, Them Are Us Too, Princess Century, Xarah Dion, 16 Volt, and NITE among many others.

Ghost Twin’s second release promises to bring some much needed cathartic release to the modern world. The forthcoming album will combine elements of German Techno, French House and 80s Industrial with the live energy of Ghost Twin for a fresh and unique sound.
