A musical guru with many balls in the air, Toronto’s Joe Byer is one of those behind-the-scenes producers who seem to be involved in an endless stream of projects without ever getting the props or credit he rightfully deserves. His project V01d has been active for years as a for-hire remixer and a world-class producer for acts such as Angelspit, Ayria, Diskonnekted, Interlace, Massiv in Mensch, Standeg, Human Decay, and many others. He has toured the globe as a live keyboarder with Ayria, and his remixing talents have been sourced by labels as renowned as Alfa Matrix, Sub.Session, Artoffact, Brume, as well as several others. The man is simply a walking musical resume; a CV that would make even the top players in this scene take note.
All that is a drop in the bucket now that V01d has come into its own with a record deal with Artoffact Records. The full-length album This Is Not A False Alarm Anymore is due out shortly as a 2CD limited edition, and iTunes is sporting V01d’s first single, complete with guest vocals by Ayria. With influences ranging from Pop Will Eat Itself to Boards Of Canada to Haujobb, V01d is a mixture of the more cerebral elements found in techno, rock, hiphop and drum’n’bass. The first release is available now on iTunes: a 2-Track teaser single for the killer track Weakener featuring the wonderful vocal talents of Ayria’s Jennifer Parkin on both tracks as well as a special exclusive PDF booklet.
